Kentucky Divorce Records

The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Office of Vital Statistics, has statewide divorce records on file from June, 1958 to the present. To access Kentucky divorce records before June, 1958, you should contact the Circuit Clerk in the county in which the dissolution of marriage was granted. (See the list at the end of the next section.)

How To Access Kentucky Divorce Records

You may access divorce records in Kentucky for yourself or for another person as long as you provide the required information about both parties on the document and pay the appropriate processing fee. Same day orders are often possible for walk in requests at the Frankfort, Kentucky Office of Vital Statistics. Mail records requests may take up to 30 business days to process, but expedited service for an additional fee is usually available.

The fee for each certified copy of Kentucky divorce records is $6. Additional copies of the same record ordered at the same time are still $6. Remember to state the number of copies you are requesting when ordering a certified Kentucky divorce certificate.

If in person records requests are made at the Frankfort office before 3:30pm, same day service is normally possible. After that time, next day service may be necessary. Application forms for certified copies of Kentucky divorce records are available from the Office of Vital Statistics.

Divorce Records And Kentucky Law

The law holds that a fee must be paid before search services can be provided by the Office of Vital Statistics. The fee is also legally non-refundable as it covers the search services whether or not Kentucky divorce records are found. Requestors must also be issued certified copies of vital records in Kentucky as non-certified certificate copies and photocopies are not permitted.

Requestors of Kentucky divorce records must include the full names of both parties in the dissolution of marriage document as well as the day, month and year of the divorce, if known. If the exact date of the Kentucky divorce isn’t known, the closest possible range of dates should be given. The county where the divorce occurred should also be included in a request for a certified copy of the record, if known. The request must be signed and include the requestor’s name, address and daytime telephone number.
