More Dutch Men Over 50 Seeking Divorce

The divorce rate for Dutch men in their 50s is on the rise, according to official figures from Statistics Netherlands. In 2011, the average age for divorcing men was 46. One in three men ending their marriage is 50 years of age or older. Not only are more older men getting divorced, but the average age at the time of marriage is increasing from 31 years of age in 1991 to 37 in 2011. Older couples may not be willing to spend the rest of their lives in unsatisfying marriages, just like in other countries.

Married, Divorced at 29 and a Christian

The writer of this essay describes the end of her three-year marriage to a church leader. She describes how the church responded to the end of her marriage and explains that she can’t justify the divorce. The ultimate question for this woman is whether she is rooted in God’s love and she writes about the need to fix other people, even when the answers are not black and white. The writer concludes that she doesn’t have to be perfect to be loved by God as her Maker. Food for thought for people who are hurting.

Divorce Complex for Senior Couples

In 2009, the divorce rate for couples over the age of 50 was one in four. Ten years earlier, about one older couple in 10 decided to end their marriage. The reasons for the higher divorce rate for seniors are complicated but may have to do with the pair growing apart or one or both people deciding they want something different before they pass on. Turning 50 makes people examine where they are in life and where they are going, and not all marriages stand up well to this level of scrutiny. Divorce after a long marriage is complicated and expert legal advice should be sought.

Should You Divorce an Unfaithful Spouse?

Does it make sense to file for divorce if your spouse has cheated on you? This type of situation is sure to rock a marriage to its very core. Before making a choice, it’s important to take a breath and think the situation through carefully. The urge for revenge can take over and lead to some bad choices when you’re hurting. Well-meaning friends and family members can urge you to make a decision because they are hurting for you but you need to consider whether your spouse is a good person before making your choice.

How to Get a Divorce if Other Spouse Won’t Sign the Papers

If the other spouse won’t sign the divorce papers, it is called a contested divorce. This situation is quite common. The papers are filed with the court and the other person is formally served. If he or she does not respond to the divorce action, then the divorce is granted by a judge according to the terms in the original paperwork. The rules about how long the other person has to respond after being served vary, depending on the state. It’s a good idea to do some research about contested divorce before starting the process.
